Hey there!
Thank you so much for being here.
I’m Alicia, a writer and reporter based in New York by way of Michigan. I primarily report on money and business, but my writing goes beyond the standard personal finance advice. I’m also interested in writing as a craft, literature, pop culture, running, musings on creativity, conscious consumerism…the list goes on.
This newsletter focuses on money, but it’s really more about living in 2023, and how we make that work.
Why subscribe?
There’s a lot of really bad money advice out there. In fact, recently it seems just about everyone is an expert, telling you to mine Bitcoin or that it’s pointless to save for retirement because we’re all doomed anyway.
I’m going to try to help you get a handle on your money with relatable and informed advice. I’m not trying to sell you anything—my main goal is to demystify personal finance for the average person.
My other goal is to have a little bit of fun. Money touches every aspect of our lives; let’s talk about it like normal people.
What you will get: Well-researched and insightful information and advice about the latest financial news that could affect you personally, as well as dispatches on sustainability, goal-setting, career advice, and my own financial plans and screw-ups.
My qualifications
I’ve reported on business and finance for almost nine years at national publications including CNBC, Money, Lifehacker, and Fortune. I’ve covered everything from health care to investing to student loan debt to unemployment, in depth. I’m really good at reading policies and legislation and other fine print, but I always take a human-centered approach to my work. I’m not here to guilt anyone about money, or turn out the same cliched advice over and over again.
I’m a true believer in service journalism, and I think of myself as an advocate for the average person. I also really, really hate financial BS—you won’t get any of that here.
